Windswept Vows Above the Valley: A Live Event Painting in Jasper Highlands

There’s something undeniably cinematic about painting on a mountaintop.

This wedding took place in Jasper Highlands, just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee—a location where the landscape feels like it’s participating in the ceremony. The wind, the view, the sky. They all showed up.

As a live event painter, I never know exactly what the day will give me. But this one handed me movement. That veil blowing in the wind. The soft, moody tones of an overcast sky. The deep greens and blues that stretch from the ridge toward the Tennessee River and the bridges beyond Chattanooga in the distance. It all became part of the story on the canvas.

Painted in my signature abstract impressionist style, this 36 x 48 piece centers on the bride and groom sharing a kiss—an anchor moment that held still in the middle of it all. Around them, reception tables, glowing florals, and the guests who helped bring the day to life. And in the bottom right, the couple’s two beloved dogs—quiet witnesses to it all—ground the painting with a personal touch that made this piece feel even more like a keepsake.

I always say that live painting is part performance, part preservation. I’m responding to energy in real time, weaving in layers of symbolism and detail. It’s not just about the likeness—it’s about the feeling. The movement. The memory that lingers even after the lights go down.

This one will always stay with me. A kiss on a mountain. A breeze that wouldn’t quit. A view that reminds you how small we are, and how big love can feel.
